Really interesting comparison here. Seeing that the GPD Duo supports up to 8TB of storage is honestly mind-blowing when you look at the 2TB cap on the Zenbook S14. It’s wild how much data we can carry around in a portable device these days.
It actually makes me laugh a bit when I look at some of the older hardware I’ve still got lying around in my spare parts bin. I still have a couple of those chunky 400GB 3.5-inch SATA 3Gbps SSDs from an old enterprise server build. Back then, having 400GB of “fast” storage in that massive 3.5-inch form factor felt like a total luxury, even if the 3Gbps bus was a bottleneck by today’s standards. Comparing those literal “bricks” to an 8TB NVMe drive tucked inside a dual-screen laptop really puts the last decade of hardware progress into perspective.
The AI benchmark gap was the biggest surprise for me, though—that 111% difference is a massive win for the AMD NPU. Do you think we’ll actually see common software start to utilize those 80 TOPS in everyday tasks soon, or is that extra power still mostly for niche developer workflows?
Yeah the GPD Duo was designed for very large amounts of storage, at a time when SSDs were also far lower price than what they are now. The AI features on these mobile CPUs might get some light AI related tasks done, but not amazing for anything demanding.
