A Paradigm Shift: Integrated Graphics Ascendant

The most startling revelation from the GPD WIN 5 leaks is the sheer, unadulterated power of its integrated GPU. GPD is equipping the WIN 5 with the brand-new AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 APU, which houses the Radeon 8060S graphics core.

Early benchmark figures place the Radeon 8060S at a 3DMark Time Spy score of approximately 10,000. Let that sink in. This integrated solution doesn’t just compete with external GPUs; it surpasses them. The GPD G1 eGPU, with its dedicated AMD Radeon RX 7600M XT, typically scores around 9,000 in the same test. The WIN 5 achieves superior performance without needing an external dock, marking a monumental achievement in APU technology.

The processor itself is no slouch. The Ryzen AI Max+ 395 is a high-end chip featuring 16 cores and 32 threads, capable of boosting up to 5.1 GHz. This is desktop-replacement level power, condensed into a form factor that fits in your hands.

Evolving the Form Factor: A Closer Look at the WIN 5’s Chassis

While the internal hardware is revolutionary, GPD hasn’t neglected the physical design. Enhanced frames from a teaser video reveal a device that is both familiar and forward-thinking.

The classic GPD Win series silhouette remains, but with key evolutionary changes from the GPD WIN 4. Speculation suggests GPD may be moving away from the signature slide-out screen and physical keyboard, opting for a more streamlined, controller-centric unibody design.

Aesthetic and functional enhancements are also visible. The fingerprint scanner on the left now features a stylish RGB light, adding a touch of modern gamer flair. The ever-useful finger trackpad is confirmed to return, but it’s the addition of new buttons on the bottom corners of the device that will excite hardcore gamers, promising greater control and customisation.

An updated screen for the GPD WIN 5!

We have learnt that the display has finally received a much needed upgrade. It will feature a 7″ ‘eSports’ LTPS touchscreen with a 120Hz refresh rate, 1920x1080P resolution, 315 PPI and 500nit brightness. We know from the many comments and feedback over the years that this is one of the most requested updates so we hope this will keep some happy GPD WIN fans happy?

The New Benchmark for Handheld Gaming

The GPD WIN 5 is shaping up to be more than just an iterative update; it’s a statement. By delivering performance that obviates the need for an eGPU for many users and refining its design for dedicated gaming, GPD is setting a new, incredibly high bar. As the doors open at Chinajoy 2025, we await the official unveiling that could very well define the next chapter of portable PC gaming.

Do you think GPD will release newer models based on their existing range? An update to the excellent GPD WIN MAX 2 2025, GPD Win Mini 2025, GPD Pocket 4 or even the Duo?
