I will say I am not a fan of the large battery but you get used to it after a while and Im usually tethered while home anyway. The software was definitely lacking and not fully localized. Software can definitely be modernized. The only physical part of the GPD win 5 I do not like at all is the back paddles. Very difficult to press and in an awkward area for my fingers. I feel for the price the cheap feeling paddles are not it. Otherwise, loving the handheld so far.

Disappointed in the GPD Win 5
While the device is a very powerful handheld I'm disappointed in the portability of it. The external battery is very heavy and, when attached to the device, makes the handheld very awkward to hold. In addition, the battery and A/C adapter use proprietary connectors requiring that a very large and heavy charger be carried exclusively for this device. While the device can be charged/operated via a USB-C port this only works when the proprietary battery is attached. Overall this is not a device I will be taking with me on travels.

What kind of cooling solution do you have for the device? Do you have standard thermal paste applied, or is it something more along the lines of PTM 7950 pads? I would be very interested to find out if I can somehow \"upgrade\" the cooling along the line? Since I have noticed that it does get quite hot when under load with the 180W charger while docked in some reviews. Or is there some other way to mitigate this?

It is a standard thermal paste used. You can of course repaste them if you wish to. We have a teardown of the WIN 5 at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lzRdSe160Q which shows the process required to repaste the CPU and what pads are required. We have tried the WIN 5 with the dock and didnt notice any major difference in temperatures. Hope that helps.

Qwill there be attempts to sell the device with other operating systems to decrease the cost or at least directly other types of operating systems like bazzite, SteamOS or some form of Linux distribution? this question mostly for the people who wanna order this without the windows key prices as part of a device. i fully aware that with the performance you offering it already perfect but mostly wanna ask a question most people might ask when it comes to a device related to gaming handhelds.

GPD supply the WIN 5 with Windows 11 pre-installed. Windows licenses are very low cost when purchased in bulk so the price difference would be minimal. You can if you wish to install your own choice of OS.

You can connect an eGPU via the USB 4 port. We would recommend something faster than the GPD G1 or ONEXGPU 1 as the internal GPU is faster. The ONEXGPU 2 is higher performance than the internal GPU.

QI see that there is a cable that attaches to the battery pack. Can the battery be detached from the cable and the cable be plugged directly to a power outlet to give the device power? When playing without the battery, I'd rather provide power from the bottom instead of the top of the device.
