  1. Hi, my GPD Dual has been crashing (blue screen) frequently ever since I received it. The crashes occur intermittently, sometimes I can use it for an hour without any issues, but other times it crashes immediately after starting Windows.

I’ve tried reinstalling the latest firmware and Windows from your official website, but the issue persists. I’ve reinstalled the system at least four times over the past few months, but the same problem returns, especially after I install more applications like VMware and programming tools. The system usually starts crashing again within a week after a fresh install.

Please advise on how to resolve this issue. Thank you.

    1. It could be any number of issues that is causing this. Does it blue screen with any software in particular? check that it is the latest version of the software. Also do check that Windows and graphics drivers are up to date. It is worth checking if the BIOS is up to date as well https://gpdstore.net/kb/gpd-duo-support-hub/kb-article/how-to-update-the-gpd-duo-bios/

On the off chance that you have a WD/Sandisk SSD installed, a recent Windows update and these SSDs have a conflict that could be the cause. See https://gpdstore.net/kb/gpd-duo-support-hub/kb-article/wd-sandisk-2tb-ssds-and-windows-11-24h2-crashes/ for more information.

If you have tried these I can recommend lowering the RAM speed to 6400Mhz and see if this makes the system more stable. We have a guide that covers all devices including the Duo at https://gpdstore.net/kb/gpd-duo-support-hub/kb-article/how-to-change-the-ram-frequency-on-gpd-devices/

If none of the above resolve the issue and you purchased it from here, please email [email protected] with your order number, that you had tried these guides, and our customer service will be able to look into it further and advise. Thanks.

  2. I’m having issues with my battery. I realized there’s no way to reduce the brightness of the 2nd screen, so I stopped using it. I turned on energy saving mode, disabled everything I could think of that may use power, adjusted all kinds of settings, & the startup has only the strictly necessary things. It’s still new to me, so I don’t have much installed. With all of that, I used up half of my battery (from a full charge) just looking through settings & having 1 browser open. I don’t know what else to do. What are my options?

    1. We recently created an article on improving your handhelds battery life which would also apply for most portable devices including the Duo. You can read it at https://gpdstore.net/gpd-handheld-gaming-battery-life-optimisation/

In our battery life tests for the Duo, running a benchmark at 28W TDP power at full screen brightness, the battery should last around 1 hour 45 minutes, and around 2 hours with just the bottom screen switched on. The battery life is obviously longer if not pushing everything to the maximum. If you are still having issues and you purchased it from us at GPDStore, get in contact with our support team at [email protected] and they can look into it further.

  3. Hi, My DUO Screen 1 occasionally flashes black. What can I do ?

    1. I would first recommend that you remove the existing and install the latest AMD graphics drivers from fresh, see our guide at https://gpdstore.net/kb/software-guides/kb-article/how-to-uninstall-and-install-amd-graphics-drivers/ See if this resolves the issue as the latest drivers have improved compatibility for the GPU.

If you are still having an issue and you purchased it from us at GPD Store, please get in contact with our customer service at [email protected] with your order number and our team will be able to look into it further. Thanks.

  4. Daniel and Holly Milam

how can i get my second screen to rotate when the rotation lock is greyed out and set to on? I would like to use it as a tablet mode when i turn it into one without manually going to display orientation each time.

    1. The second (top) display only automatically flips horizontal. To flip it to vertical you would need to change in display settings

  5. Hi I am having an issue where the built in SD card reader has stopped working completely, windows doesn’t see it at all. Has anyone else had similar issues?

    1. Were you using a SD Card at the time? Anything happened when it stopped working that might indicate what the cause is? (Say: copying a large amount of files between the internal store and the SD Card?)

Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot the issue:
      Check Device Manager:

      • Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
      • Look under Disk Drives, Memory technology devices, or Universal Serial Bus controllers for your SD card.
      • If it’s not listed or has a yellow exclamation mark, right-click and select Scan for hardware changes or try updating the driver.

      Use Disk Management:

      • Press Win + X and select Disk Management.
      • Check if your SD card appears here.
      • If it shows up without a drive letter, right-click and choose Change Drive Letter and Paths.

If it shows as “Not Initialized” or “Unallocated,” the card may need to be formatted (please back up any data first).
      Run DiskPart:

      • Open Command Prompt by pressing Win + R, typing cmd, and pressing Enter.
      • Type diskpart and press Enter, then type list disk to see if the SD card is listed.

      Check Event Viewer:

      • Press Win + X and select Event Viewer.
      • Go to Windows Logs > System and look for errors related to the SD card reader or USB hub.

      Run the Hardware Troubleshooter:

      • Press Win + R, type msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic, and press Enter.
      • Follow the steps to diagnose any hardware-related issues.

If the SD card is still not recognized after trying these steps, and if you purchased your DUO from DROIX or GPD Store, reach out to us.

  6. Does the Duo have to ability to pop the SD card out when you push it in, or do I have to use tweezers to take it out each time? I can push the SD card in until it’s flush but, it’ll read but it is a pain to remove.

    1. It is a push in/push out slot so you will not need tweezers to pull it out. Once you push it with say your fingernail, it will pop up a little and is easy to remove with your fingers.

  7. How’s the compatibility with the Linux kernel? I plan to run it with the mainline kernel if I get one.

    1. We have not tried Linux on it yet. Its something we may look into in the future.

  8. how do i turn off the back screen when using with 1 screen?

    1. Press the F3 key to enable/disable the top display.

  9. Can the user change the wifi module? Or is it baked onto the motherboard?

    1. Based on the pre-production model that we have, it is not replaceable.

  10. Does it support S3 sleep?

    1. It does not support S3 Sleep.
